ANONYMOuS

Lying awake, trapped in my mind,

Each thought a bouncing ball.

One ball falls, another bounces up

Control them, I say.

I try.

They’re coming thick and fast now,

I can’t volley them down.

Faster and faster, make them go away.

Try harder, I say.

I try.

The balls inflate, leaving less and less space

Struggling for air now, I need them to burst

Suffocated in my own mind,  longing for quiet and calm.

Breathe, I say.

I try.

In physical presence, yet so alone.

Share it I say, I can’t.
